This photograph shows a flaw in using the Lumix camera over an SLR. I have talked a bit about the differences in my Blog. I could not get the camera to auto-focus on the sailboat in the background. I think it made for an interesting picture though - the close up focus of the leaves and the foreground, and the blurred - almost impressionistic image of a sailboat in the center.

This photo was taken with my Lumix.
This is a photo that would normally be impossible with a normal point and click camera. My Kodak z710 would have produced a totally black snapshot.
In reality, it was nearly pitch black when I took this except for the very small, dim moon in the sky, and its reflection on the water.
This shouldn't have even turned out at all.  But here, with the auto-intelligence mode, we get a dark blue sky, not a black one, against which you can make out the shape of the trees.
You can certainly make out what you are looking at.

The IA system on the Lumix does a fair job of compensating for the near pitch black conditions in the background, and the bright light from the fire, which being in the foreground would normally have turned our night sky and tree background into blackness.

Here's a close-up shot of our campfire at Buffalo Bay campgrounds on the Red Cliff Reservation. The Lumix camera even caught some exploding sparks.
